Biocient was founded on the conviction that mitochondrial dysfunction is a key contributor to neurodegenerative disease — and that addressing it may create new opportunities for therapeutic intervention.

Roman Pipman
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Roman Pipman is an entrepreneur and executive in health and life sciences with more than 30 years of experience building, financing, and scaling companies across Europe and North America.
He previously led the development and commercialization of Amberen, a leading women's health product, which was acquired by Alliance Pharma. Biocient reflects his commitment to advancing innovative therapies that address significant unmet medical needs.

Luis Pérez de Sevilla Müller, PhD
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Luis Pérez de Sevilla is a neuroscientist focused on retinal biology, neurodegeneration, and the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurological disease. His work uses genetic models, electrophysiology, and advanced imaging to investigate disease pathology and potential therapeutic targets.
His career includes extensive research in Canada, Germany, and the USA, most recently at UCLA prior to joining Biocient, along with numerous peer-reviewed publications investigating retinal and neuronal function. At Biocient, Dr. Pérez de Sevilla leads scientific strategy and preclinical development efforts focused on mitochondrial biology and neurodegenerative disease.
